The court found a direct link between the man’s assault and the physical and psychological harm suffered by the woman.
A man has been ordered to pay a woman Dh50,000 in compensation after an assault caused a double fracture of her nasal bones, nosebleed and psychological distress.
The Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Claims Court awarded the compensation for the physical, material and emotional harm the woman suffered as a result of the attack, according to Emarat Al Youm.
The woman had sought Dh100,000 in compensation, along with legal fees and expenses, claiming that the man had assaulted her and caused injuries that left her unable to carry out her normal daily activities for up to 20 days.
The man had previously been convicted in a criminal case for the assault.
In its ruling, the civil court said UAE law requires anyone who causes harm to another person to compensate the victim for the resulting damage.
The court found that the earlier criminal judgment had established that the assault had occurred, determined its legal classification and confirmed the defendant’s responsibility.
Medical evidence showed that the woman had suffered a double fracture of the nasal bones and nasal bleeding. The court also considered the psychological distress and emotional harm resulting from the assault.
It concluded that the man’s actions were directly responsible for the woman’s injuries and that the legal conditions for awarding compensation had been satisfied.
The court ordered the man to pay Dh50,000 in compensation and dismissed the remainder of the woman’s claims.
