Workshops Equip Young People With Skills in Money Management, Public Speaking, Online Safety and Emotional Wellbeing.

Children and young people aged seven to 18 in Abu Dhabi will take part in a new programme designed to build practical life skills, including money management, public speaking, online safety and strategies for handling frustration.

The Life Skills Programme, which will run until the end of the year, was launched by the Family Care Authority (FCA), affiliated with the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, in partnership with the Ministry of Education.

The programme will be held across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, with interactive workshops designed to help children and teenagers develop essential personal and social skills.

Eight Specialised Workshops

The programme will feature eight specialised workshops covering topics such as rights and responsibilities, assertive communication, systematic thinking, banking services, public speaking, conflict resolution, managing frustration, and online awareness and safety.

The sessions will also introduce participants to leadership, emotional intelligence, social responsibility, Emirati values and etiquette, financial literacy, entrepreneurship and positive thinking.

The workshops combine classroom learning with practical activities, giving participants opportunities to apply the skills they learn in everyday situations.

Hanan Juma Alrayssi, Acting Executive Director of the Counselling and Integration Sector at the Family Care Authority, said developing life skills from an early age can help children build confidence and better prepare for different challenges and situations.

She said early exposure to these skills, particularly during the formative years of adolescence, can strengthen self-confidence, improve social interaction, support better decision-making and encourage a greater sense of responsibility.

Alrayssi added that the programme also aims to help young people develop healthy relationships and build the resilience needed to adapt to change and navigate different challenges.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Dr Omar Al Dhaheri, Assistant Undersecretary for School Operations at the Ministry of Education – Abu Dhabi, said life skills form an important part of a child’s overall education.

He said the programme provides children and young people with opportunities to learn through practical experiences, discussions and active participation.

These experiences, he added, can help students gain a better understanding of themselves, express their opinions more confidently and respond to different situations with greater assurance.

The programme also seeks to strengthen collaboration between families, schools and community organisations in supporting the development of children and young people.

The Family Care Authority said the initiative is part of broader efforts to equip the younger generation with the knowledge, values and practical skills needed to navigate different stages of life.
