School traffic adds to congestion on Al Ittihad and E311 as police step up patrols.
Dubai: Morning traffic is building on key routes between Sharjah and Dubai as schools reopen after the summer break, with commuters encountering slow-moving stretches on several major roads.
Live traffic data shows congestion along Al Ittihad Road (E11), particularly around the Sharjah-Dubai border, Al Nahda, Al Taawun and Sahara Centre. The corridor is one of the busiest routes for commuters travelling into Dubai during the morning rush.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311) is also experiencing slower traffic at several points, particularly around Sharjah’s Industrial Area and along the Muhaisnah–Al Qusais corridor. Traffic is especially heavy on stretches connecting the industrial areas with Dubai.
The map also shows pockets of congestion around Mleiha Street, Maleha Road and Muwaileh, with school-related traffic expected to add further pressure as parents and school buses take to the roads.
Further east, Emirates Road (E611) appears to be moving more freely along several stretches, providing an alternative for motorists travelling between the Northern Emirates and Dubai. The route has also recently received additional lanes aimed at improving traffic flow.
Traffic is meanwhile beginning to build around Al Warqa, Mirdif, Al Rashidiya and Nad Al Hamar as commuters make their way towards central Dubai.
The return to school is expected to make the first few days particularly challenging, with more than 1.27 million students returning to more than 1,180 public and private schools across the UAE.
Dubai Police has deployed 253 security and traffic patrols and 28 drones as part of its back-to-school traffic and safety plan, while authorities across the UAE are stepping up measures to manage congestion around schools and major routes.
Motorists travelling from Sharjah to Dubai are advised to leave earlier than usual, check live traffic conditions before setting off and avoid sudden lane changes, particularly around school zones and busy interchanges. These precautions are especially important as back-to-school traffic adds pressure to major commuter routes.
