UAE statistics overhaul to introduce updated GDP measures for evolving economy.

Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the National Programme for Developing the Statistics System in the UAE, a major initiative designed to modernise the country’s economic data framework and ensure it keeps pace with the UAE’s evolving economy.

The programme includes a comprehensive review of the methodology used to measure gross domestic product (GDP), with a focus on capturing the rapid growth of non-oil sectors and the expanding contributions of areas such as the digital economy, technology, artificial intelligence and investment.

The programme also aims to improve the accuracy, quality and reliability of official statistics by aligning the UAE’s data systems with international best practices and the United Nations System of National Accounts.

According to the UAE Government Media Office, the initiative aims to create a more complete picture of the country’s economic size, diversity and growth trajectory, helping strengthen data-driven policymaking and boost investor confidence.

The updated statistical framework is expected to support the UAE’s ambition of strengthening its position as a leading global economic hub by ensuring official data reflects the economy’s ongoing structural transformation.
