ADNOC L&S expands fleet with $900 million order for four LNG carriers

Date:

Four 175,000-cubic-metre LNG carriers to join ADNOC L&S fleet in 2029.

Dubai: ADNOC Logistics and Services has placed an order for four new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers worth approximately $900 million (Dh3.3 billion), as the company expands its fleet to support ADNOC’s growing global LNG marketing and trading operations.

Each of the four vessels will have a capacity of 175,000 cubic metres and is expected to be delivered in 2029. The LNG carriers will be constructed by Shanghai-based Jiangnan Shipyard and are planned to operate under long-term charter agreements.

The latest order brings ADNOC L&S’ LNG newbuild programme to 18 vessels and increases the company’s total fleet investment commitments since 2022 to more than $5 billion.

“Amid continued growth in global demand for natural gas, this latest order reflects our confidence in the long-term strength of the LNG shipping market,” said Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi, CEO of ADNOC L&S. “Supported by strong earnings growth and diversified operations, we are investing in a next-generation fleet that will help connect key supply sources with high-growth demand centres while contributing to the global energy transition.”

Six carriers already delivered

ADNOC L&S has already taken delivery of six LNG carriers from Jiangnan Shipyard as part of an earlier $1.2 billion order.

Five of these vessels have been deployed under long-term contracts of up to 15 years with ADNOC Gas, generating contracted revenue since May 2026.

In addition, eight LNG carriers are currently under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean as part of an investment of around $2.5 billion. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028, with all eight vessels secured under 20-year charter agreements with ADNOC Gas.

The fleet expansion will support ADNOC’s goal of marketing 47 million tonnes of LNG annually by 2035 through its newly launched global LNG marketing and trading platform.

First ammonia carrier delivered

ADNOC L&S has also taken delivery of Meera, the first of four Very Large Ammonia Carriers ordered through AW Shipping, its joint venture with China’s Wanhua Chemical Group.

With a capacity of 93,000 cubic metres, the vessel ranks among the largest ammonia carriers in the world.

In 2024, AW Shipping placed a $1.9 billion order for four ammonia carriers and nine Very Large Ethane Carriers. Two of the ethane carriers were delivered in 2025.

Including its 50% stake in the AW Shipping programme, ADNOC L&S has committed more than $5 billion towards 32 vessels since 2022. Of these, nine vessels have already been delivered, while a further 23 are expected to join the fleet by 2029.

The agreement for the four LNG carriers was signed during a visit by Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, to Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai.
