After 20 years of trying, 79-year-old Lebanese expat in UAE wins Dh150,000

Date:

Dh590,000 Big Win Contest prize shared by four, including Emirati Dubai Customs employee.

Abu Dhabi: He has been buying Big Ticket every single month for more than two decades, and Majed Albert Ghulmiyyah, a 79-year-old retired Lebanese expat who has lived in the UAE for 55 years, says patience has always been key.

In Series 287 of the Big Ticket’s Big Win Contest, Majed was among four winners from Lebanon, the UAE and India who collectively won Dh590,000 in cash prizes.

Never missed a month

“I’ve been purchasing tickets for over 20 years,” he said.

“Sometimes I participate with my wife and children, and other times on my own. But one thing has remained constant: I never miss a month.”

He often purchased multiple tickets, depending on the available offers.

When he learned that he had won and would be invited to attend the Big Win Contest live, he described the experience as “truly amazing.”“I was truly happy,” he said.

Majed, who won Dh150,000, said the winning ticket was selected completely at random.

He plans to use the prize to create lasting memories with his family, including a possible holiday together. He also intends to share part of the winnings with friends and relatives. Staying true to his long-standing habit, he will continue buying tickets every month and encourages others to keep trying their luck.

From customs desk to winner’s circle

Also celebrating a Dh150,000 win is Jassim Mohammad Obaid Alyassi, a 47-year-old Emirati working at Dubai Customs. He first discovered Big Ticket online and has been participating independently for more than three years.

This marks his first-ever win.

“It was a very nice experience being at the Big Ticket studio. I truly enjoyed every moment of it,” he said.

He also praised the initiative for giving everyone a fair chance.

His advice to others hoping to try their luck was simple but reflective: “Take a chance and be patient. To win anything, you need patience and must wait for your time.”
