Dubai schools have resumed outdoor activities and physical education (PE) classes following approval from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

Date:

The decision comes after a seven-week suspension of school operations due to regional tensions, with in-person classes resuming on April 20.

Some schools in Dubai are reopening their playgrounds and outdoor spaces, marking a gradual return to normal routines after a period of precautionary measures.

The development follows a seven-week school closure due to regional tensions, with in-person classes resuming on April 20. The return of outdoor activities such as physical education (PE) classes and school assemblies represents an important step for students and parents.

In line with approvals from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), several schools have informed parents that outdoor activities will be reintroduced in phases starting this week.

A school in the Emirates Hills area confirmed in a circular to parents on Sunday that outdoor activities are being reinstated amid “current stable conditions” and in line with directives from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

The circular outlined the return of several activities, including outdoor PE lessons, outdoor break periods, school assemblies, graduation ceremonies, and co-curricular activities (CCAs), both on campus and in outdoor spaces.

It stated that most outdoor activities will resume on Monday, April 27, with CCAs restarting slightly later on Wednesday, April 29. The school added that necessary safety arrangements have been put in place, including designated safe zones and evacuation routes, and noted that outdoor activities will be immediately suspended if any official alerts are issued.

Co-curricular activities will resume after additional coordination with external providers to ensure compliance with safety protocols.

The phased return follows the resumption of in-person classes on April 20, after a period of disruption. Schools have since implemented emergency preparedness measures, staff training, and compliance checks before reopening fully.

Alongside operational readiness, schools have also focused on supporting students’ emotional wellbeing, helping them adjust back to routines and rebuild social connections.

The return of outdoor learning and activities is seen as a key step toward restoring a more complete school experience for students.
