Students in Indian curriculum schools across the UAE are beginning the 2026–27 academic year online, with some schools having started remote classes on Monday and most set to commence on April 6.
Schools are using a blended approach of synchronous and asynchronous learning, enabling students to balance live lessons with flexible, self-paced activities.
These activities include morning assemblies, teacher introductions, orientation sessions, and virtual student leadership induction ceremonies.
UAE Indian Schools Begin 2026–27 Academic Year Online
Live lessons in Indian curriculum schools across the UAE are designed to be interactive, concise, and student-centered, making full use of digital tools, multimedia resources, and collaborative platforms to maintain engagement. Teachers will monitor student progress closely through formative assessments, digital assignments, and targeted feedback, ensuring learning outcomes remain consistent.
Structured Learning to Keep Students Engaged
Fatima Martin, Principal and CEO of GEMS New Millennium School, explained that online learning does not change the core academic or operational processes. “Teaching, learning, assessments, routines, and student support systems continue as planned, simply delivered online to maintain continuity and familiarity for students, staff, and parents.”
She added that all scheduled school events, including morning assemblies and student leadership induction ceremonies, will proceed virtually, keeping student voice, leadership development, and community engagement central to the experience.
To support smooth learning, the school has enhanced technology support, providing seamless access to devices and platforms. Teachers are trained to manage any disruptions during live lessons, ensuring a supportive learning environment.
Virtual Orientations and Parental Support
Chitra Sharma, Principal of JSS Private School, Dubai, described preparations for the year: “The school community is fully aligned to ensure a smooth start. Systems have been streamlined to support students transitioning into new grades and classrooms, providing clarity from day one.”
Students will meet new teachers through virtual orientation sessions, structured assemblies, and ‘meet-your-teacher’ interactions, designed to build familiarity and reduce anxiety. Diagnostic and formative assessments in the initial weeks will help teachers gauge readiness and provide targeted support to prevent learning gaps.
Noufal Ahamed, Managing Director of Woodlem Educational, said the group has adopted a student-centered approach to support transitions. “We ensure parents and students receive clear communication, including hyperlinked timetables for direct access to schedules and virtual classrooms.”
Virtual orientations will introduce students to teachers and familiarize them with classroom routines and learning platforms, helping build confidence and a sense of belonging from day one. Parents will also receive support through Zoom training sessions, enabling them to assist their children effectively at home.
