Fuel prices rise globally: Dozens of countries increase rates; UAE set to announce new prices on March 31.

Date:

Retail fuel prices have risen across Asia, Africa, Europe, and other regions, with increases ranging from under 5% to over 80%, driven by the ongoing regional conflict.

Dozens of countries have increased petrol and diesel prices in response to the ongoing U.S.–Israel–Iran military conflict and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz, which have pushed up global oil prices and fuel costs.

The conflict has severely strained global oil supply routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz — a key chokepoint through which about 20 % of the world’s seaborne oil typically passes — and driven crude prices sharply higher, prompting nations around the world to adjust retail fuel rates.

Major countries reporting fuel price increases include Pakistan, the Philippines, the US, Australia, Cambodia, Chile, Denmark, Nigeria, Nepal, Canada, France, Germany, China, the UK, South Korea, Brazil, Japan, Vietnam, Laos, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.

Additional countries that have also raised fuel prices include Finland, Austria, Egypt, Poland, Spain, North Macedonia, and Albania.

Fuel price increases across these countries range from under 5% to over 80%, with Europe recording an average rise of around 12% between late February and mid-March. As of March 25, the Philippines saw the highest increase, with oil prices jumping more than 80% due to the Middle East conflict.

Will petrol prices rise in the UAE?
The UAE deregulated petrol and diesel prices in August 2015 to align domestic rates with global markets. Global oil prices have surged from $72.87 per barrel for Brent on February 27 to $114.7 per barrel on the morning of March 30—an increase of over 57%.

The UAE is set to announce petrol prices for April 2026 on March 31, following its policy of revising rates on the last day of each month. Given the global price surge, fuel costs at UAE petrol stations are expected to rise, though official rates will be confirmed tomorrow.

In March 2026, UAE fuel prices increased by roughly Dh0.14 per litre in line with global trends:

  • Super 98: Dh2.59 per litre, up from Dh2.45 in February
  • Special 95: Dh2.48 per litre, up from Dh2.33
  • E-Plus 91: Dh2.40 per litre, up from Dh2.26
  • Diesel: Dh2.72 per litre, up Dh0.20 from the previous month
