UAE weather warning: Strong winds and scattered showers expected

Date:

UAE set for cloudy skies today, with rain likely from Tuesday, say forecasters.

Dubai: Fair to partly cloudy weather is expected across the UAE on Monday, turning cloudier over western regions and offshore islands by night, with temperatures rising slightly, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported.

Winds will be light to moderate, occasionally freshening and causing blowing dust, with speeds ranging from 10 to 25 km/h and gusts reaching up to 40 km/h.

Sea conditions are forecast to be moderate to rough in the Arabian Gulf and slight to moderate in the Sea of Oman. Temperatures are expected to range between 23°C and 28°C along the coast, up to 30°C inland, and 9°C to 18°C in mountainous areas.

From Tuesday through Wednesday, the UAE is expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with light to moderate rainfall likely over scattered areas and a slight drop in temperatures, especially in western regions. Winds will remain light to moderate but may occasionally freshen, reaching speeds of 40 to 45 km/h, and sea conditions could become rough at times.

Weather is expected to improve gradually by Thursday and Friday, with fair to partly cloudy skies. Humid conditions are likely at night and in the early morning, with a chance of fog or mist in some coastal and inland areas.

Weather shifts with Sarayat patterns

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomical Society and a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences (AUASS), explained that the current conditions are linked to the seasonal Sarayat period—a spring transition phase in the Gulf known for rapid weather changes, convective cloud formation, and occasional thunderstorms.

He noted that the recent weather system from March 21 to 28 brought one of the heaviest rainfall events recorded in the UAE in nearly 80 years of documented meteorological records.
