Abu Dhabi Police alert public to begging scams following 118 arrests.

Residents are advised to report offenders and refrain from giving cash directly.

Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police reported apprehending 118 beggars during the holy month of Ramadan as part of ongoing efforts to combat begging, enhance community safety, and protect the emirate’s public image.

Authorities stated that the intensified inspection campaigns are part of proactive measures to curb a practice that often takes advantage of residents’ charitable sentiments during Ramadan.

Police warned that some individuals use deceptive tactics and fabricated stories to obtain money illegally, emphasizing that such actions are offences punishable under the law.

Abu Dhabi Police urged the public not to give money directly to beggars, cautioning that this may inadvertently encourage the continuation of such behavior.

Instead, residents are encouraged to direct donations and zakat through official channels and licensed charitable organisations to ensure aid reaches those genuinely in need.

The police also urged the public to report instances of begging via official communication channels, emphasizing that community cooperation is vital for supporting enforcement efforts and maintaining public safety.
