Official aims to strengthen UAE-Philippines relations in food security, trade, and agriculture.

Dubai: The Philippines has appointed a new agriculture attaché for the Middle East, Africa, and India, with a focus on strengthening food security partnerships and expanding agricultural trade with the UAE.

In a recent development, the new attaché, Michael Sollera, paid a courtesy call on Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Alfonso Ver at the Philippine embassy in Abu Dhabi, marking the start of his regional posting. Sollera will be based in Dubai.

Strengthening UAE-Philippines food ties
During the meeting, Ambassador Ver welcomed Sollera and discussed ways to deepen agricultural cooperation between the two countries.

“Discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in food security, agricultural trade, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to support sustainable agricultural development and deliver mutual benefits to both nations,” the embassy said.

Promoting Philippine products
Sollera expressed his commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture and food systems across his jurisdiction, which covers the Middle East, Africa, and India.

He also emphasized opportunities to promote Philippine agricultural exports in the region and to explore innovative strategies aligned with shared goals on food sustainability and resilience.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Ver reaffirmed the embassy’s full support for initiatives designed to enhance agricultural collaboration and mutual development.

The meeting concluded with both officials expressing optimism about closer engagement in the coming months to further strengthen agricultural and food security ties between the Philippines and the UAE.
