One of Dubai’s busiest traffic hotspots has just seen a major improvement.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the official opening of a 1km bridge as part of the Dubai World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project.
Designed to handle 3,000 vehicles per hour, the bridge connects traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street towards Al Karama and Deira. Travel times between the two streets are expected to drop from six minutes to just one, easing congestion at the World Trade Centre Roundabout.
The two-lane, second-level bridge is also set to help reduce intersection delays from 12 minutes to just 90 seconds. The roundabout is one of Dubai’s busiest, linking Sheikh Zayed Road with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street, and Al Majlis Street.
With the new bridge now operational, the Dubai World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project is 60 percent complete, with three bridges already open to traffic. Work continues on two additional bridges for traffic from Sheikh Rashid Street and Al Majlis Street toward 2nd December Street, both scheduled to open in October.
The project aims to enable free-flowing traffic from 2nd December Street in Jumeirah and Al Satwa to Al Majlis Street, continuing to Al Mustaqbal Street and serving the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and DIFC areas.
It also improves connectivity across key districts, including Zabeel, Al Satwa, Al Karama, Al Jafiliya, and Al Mankhool, benefiting an estimated over half a million residents and visitors.
