Dubai: UAE ended their T20 World Cup campaign with a six-wicket defeat to South Africa at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Chasing 123, the Proteas reached their target in 13.2 overs, losing just four wickets.
South Africa captain Aiden Markram gave the innings a solid start with 28 runs, while Ryan Rickelton contributed 30 off 16 balls (3 fours, 2 sixes) and Dewald Brevis added 36 off 25 balls (1 four, 3 sixes) to secure the win.
Batting first, the UAE began positively, with openers Aryansh Sharma (13) and captain Muhammad Waseem (22) putting together a 38-run opening stand.
Alishan Sharafu played a crucial innings for UAE, scoring 45 off 38 balls, including five fours and a six, helping the team reach 122 for six in their 20 overs.
For South Africa, Corbin Bosch was the standout bowler, taking three wickets for just 12 runs in his four overs, while Anrich Nortje added two more wickets to restrict UAE.
UAE’s sole win came against Canada, whereas South Africa completed Group D with a perfect 4‑0 record.
