RTA introduces new inspection measures to ensure delivery motorcycles in Dubai operate safely and efficiently.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has implemented new inspection standards for delivery motorcycles, enabling companies to renew registrations for an additional year.

The initiative aims to boost safety, support the expanding delivery sector, and encourage more sustainable operations.

New registration standards

The RTA’s technical inspection standards, designed in line with global best practices, will be offered on an optional basis. Delivery companies can access the service through:

  • Designated RTA inspection centres
  • RTA’s website via the ‘Delivery Bikes Operational Life Extension’ service

The process ensures that motorcycles are safe and fit for delivery operations before their registration is renewed for a fifth year.

Supporting sector growth and rider safety

Khaled Mohammed Saleh, Director of Commercial Transport Activities at RTA, highlighted the rapid expansion of Dubai’s delivery sector in recent years. He said the new initiative is designed to enhance service quality, improve safety for riders and other road users, reduce operating costs, and increase operational efficiency.

He noted that the programme also reinforces governance of delivery operations, promotes sustainable growth, and sets clear technical standards to keep pace with the increasing number of delivery companies and motorcycles in Dubai.

Additional initiatives for delivery sector support

In collaboration with public and private partners, the RTA has introduced several measures to enhance rider welfare and road safety:

  • Dedicated stations and rest areas equipped with service facilities for delivery riders
  • Designated lanes exclusively for delivery motorcycles
  • Yellow number plates for delivery bikes to improve visibility and safety
  • Charging stations and fatigue-reduction initiatives to support rider wellbeing

Quick and simple renewal process

Delivery companies can extend bike registration through a few easy steps:

  • Log in to the RTA website using a corporate account
  • Select the ‘Delivery Bikes Operational Life Extension’ service
  • Identify motorcycles that have reached their maximum operational age
  • Complete the technical inspection at designated centres

These measures are part of the RTA’s broader strategy to support Dubai’s delivery sector while prioritising safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

Key highlights

  • Delivery bikes can renew registration for an additional year
  • Optional technical inspections ensure operational safety
  • Initiative aims to reduce costs and improve efficiency
