Ghamdan Niser sells five flavours of water—saffron, shilajit, Arabic gum, frankincense with gum and mastic
or years, Ghamdan Niser struggled with insulin resistance and took multiple medications to treat his condition. Eventually, the Emirati soon got tired of his routine and decided to look for alternative methods. That is when a friend suggested soaking Omani frankincense in water overnight and drinking it.Â
“I did this regularly for several months,” he told Khaleej Times. “I began to feel very energetic. Afterwards, when I did a blood test, my insulin levels had begun normalizing as well.” For the last ten years, he has not had any medication and his blood sugar levels have been normal.
It was only in 2019, however, that Ghamdan decided to turn his personal experience into a business idea. That led to the launch of Khairat Al Yemen, which sells flavoured waters, organic coffee, and honey, among other products.
Ghamdan was one of those who displayed his products at the stand of Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Dubai SME) at Gulfood last week. There were many who were interested in trying out his products and offering him business deals. “As a small business, having this kind of support made a real difference,” he said. “Dubai SME helped us be present on a global platform and guided us on how to present our products in a more structured and confident way.”
Flavoured waters
Currently, Ghamdan sells five flavours of water—saffron, shilajit, Arabic gum, frankincense with gum and mastic. He insists that they all have various benefits. “For example, the Arabic gum is great for those wanting to lose weight,” he said. “It helps increase healthy bacteria in the gut and aids fast digestion. Saffron water is great for people who are hot-tempered. It has a soothing and calming effect.”
The Shilajit water uses the nutrient-rich Indian substance usually derived from plant decomposition in high-altitude mountain rocks, especially the Himalayas. A staple in the Indian Ayurvedic medicine, the nutrient is used to boost energy and stamina. “The Shilajit water even helps to maintain youth,” he insisted.
Other than the flavoured waters, Khairat Al Yemen also sells organic coffee, henna, and honey spoons. According to Ghamdan, his company’s green Yemeni coffee is made from coffee beans grown at 2600 meters above sea level in the fertile Wadi Mehrab area. His aim is to make natural, organic products available to the public. “There are a lot of hidden secrets in the spices and naturally occurring products that our forefathers knew,” he said. “I want to revive that and make it accessible to everyone.”
