About 762 workers have heaved a sigh of relief as a mobile court restored Dh26 million in unpaid wages. The Abu Dhabi Labour Court and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation intervened to resolve the year-long dispute between the workers and their employer over unpaid salaries.

Over 1,000 workers – including waiters, cooks, administrators and drivers – spent months without their wages as the catering company that employed them ran into financial troubles. The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department’s (ADJD) mobile court – a double-decker bus – then wheeled in to their accommodation to resolve the issue. After implementing a payout for 300 workers previously, the court settled the wages of the rest of the workers on Sunday, February 23.

Juidicial officials said the UAE is keen on preserving and safeguarding the rights of workers and ensuring their protection as defined by the law.
