Organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in partnership with the Emirates Motorsport Organization, the competition will bring together local and international racers competing across several categories.
The international event is part of Abu Dhabi’s wider ambition to reinforce its reputation as a leading motorsport destination while encouraging greater participation in desert rally racing, a sport that demands speed, precision, endurance and technical expertise.
Sweihan’s spectacular desert terrain provides an ideal setting for the challenge, with towering dunes and changing sand conditions creating a demanding course for participants.
Drivers and riders will be tested on their navigation skills, vehicle handling, route planning and ability to adapt to difficult terrain.
Success in the competition requires not only physical fitness and technical preparation but also sharp concentration and strict adherence to racing regulations and safety procedures.
Beyond the racing action, the event supports Abu Dhabi’s efforts to expand its sporting calendar by hosting competitions that bring together competitive sport, tourism and entertainment.
For spectators, the challenge offers an opportunity to experience the excitement of desert motorsport while discovering the UAE’s distinctive natural landscapes and rich desert traditions.
The event also highlights the strong relationship between the country’s motorsport culture and its longstanding connection to the desert.

For emerging competitors, the event offers valuable opportunities to sharpen their skills, gain practical racing experience and prepare for higher-level regional and international motorsport championships.
Four championship rounds scheduled until April 2027
The fourth edition of the Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge will feature four rounds running through April 2027, with races taking place across several well-known desert locations in the emirate.
The varied routes will expose competitors to different landscapes and racing conditions, testing their adaptability, endurance and technical abilities throughout the season.
With racers representing 23 nationalities, the championship brings together established motorsport names and ambitious newcomers, creating opportunities for both professional and amateur participants to compete on demanding desert courses.
Emirati racers will also have a strong presence across the different categories.
In the motorcycle division, registered UAE competitors include Mohammed Al Balooshi, Hamdan Al Ali and Khalifa Al Rumaithi.
Meanwhile, Mansour Al Heli and Khalid Al Kindi are among the competitors entered in the car category.
Women will also participate in the championship, competing across the motorcycle, car and buggy divisions.
Multiple motorcycle and vehicle classes
The motorcycle category will be divided into several competitive classes to accommodate different types of riders and machines.
These include 450cc, above 450cc, Marathon, Adventure, Veterans, Junior and Women.
The car competition will feature the T3 and T4 classes, while quad bikes and buggies will compete in their respective Pro categories.
The season’s opening round will take place in Sweihan, a location known for its expansive dunes and challenging desert terrain.
The course will demand precise navigation, strong vehicle control and advanced riding and driving techniques as competitors tackle shifting sand and difficult routes.
Combining speed, endurance and accuracy, the Sweihan round is expected to provide a demanding opening test for participants as they begin their championship campaigns.
Now in its fourth season, the Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge continues to play an important role in promoting motorsport and encouraging wider participation in desert rally racing.
The championship provides a valuable opportunity for emerging Emirati talents to compete alongside experienced international riders and drivers, helping them develop their skills and gain exposure to competitive racing.
The event also reinforces Abu Dhabi’s commitment to expanding its sporting calendar and establishing desert rallying as a prominent part of the emirate’s motorsport scene.
Before racing gets underway, all participating vehicles will be required to undergo mandatory technical inspections to ensure compliance with the competition’s safety standards and regulations.
Final race classifications will be determined after these checks are completed, in line with the championship’s technical rules and eligibility requirements.
Desert routes exceeding 100km to challenge competitors
Each round of the Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge will cover more than 100 kilometres, with the course divided into laps measuring approximately 25 kilometres each.
The demanding routes are designed to test competitors’ speed, endurance, navigation abilities and vehicle-handling skills across challenging desert terrain.
According to the official season schedule, the fastest participants are expected to complete the course in approximately two hours, making precision, stamina and consistent performance essential throughout the race.
Winning in desert rally racing requires much more than simply reaching the highest speed. Competitors need to demonstrate strong technical abilities, accurately assess the terrain, choose the most effective routes and maintain precise control of their vehicles throughout the race.
Managing time and physical endurance is equally important, particularly when navigating shifting sands, steep dunes and constantly changing desert conditions.
Proper vehicle preparation and adherence to technical and organisational regulations are also essential. With cars, motorcycles, quad bikes and buggies competing in separate categories, each vehicle type presents its own mechanical requirements and racing challenges.
Adding to the competitive excitement, participants will have the opportunity to win cash prizes in each round, offering further motivation to deliver strong performances and advance their motorsport ambitions.
Nurturing emerging talent and raising Abu Dhabi’s motorsport profile
The Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge serves as an important platform for expanding participation in motorsport by welcoming competitors with varying levels of experience.
Rather than catering exclusively to established racers, the championship allows beginners and amateur enthusiasts to compete alongside seasoned professionals and experienced drivers.
This provides newcomers with valuable exposure to organised motorsport events, helping them understand race preparation, technical requirements and the skills needed to succeed in demanding desert conditions.
The initiative supports the broader objectives of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Emirates Motorsport Organization to develop the motorsport sector, nurture homegrown talent and create more competitive opportunities for aspiring racers across the UAE and the wider region.
By offering a structured racing environment, the championship also encourages amateur participants to build their abilities progressively and prepare for more advanced levels of competition.
Hosting the championship across different desert locations further highlights Abu Dhabi’s diverse natural landscapes.
From the sweeping dunes of Sweihan to the vast sands of Liwa and the distinctive desert terrain surrounding Al Ain, each location offers its own challenges and scenic appeal.
The varied settings also help connect motorsport with tourism and outdoor recreation, creating experiences that appeal to adventure seekers, off-road driving enthusiasts and spectators interested in exploring the emirate’s desert environment.
As the Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge begins its fourth season, it continues to establish itself as a significant fixture on the emirate’s sporting calendar.
By combining competitive racing, talent development and opportunities for both amateur and professional participants, the championship contributes to Abu Dhabi’s wider ambition of diversifying its sporting events and attracting motorsport enthusiasts from across the UAE and internationally.
