Arab Health 2020: Now, get free second medical opinion

Date:

The new online and mobile-only feature was launched by the DHA at the opening of Arab Health.

Need a second opinion for your diagnosis? Now, patients with disorders across seven specialities can get a second medical opinion (SMO) or diagnosis for free from doctors in Dubai, thanks to a new initiative launched by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

The new online and mobile-only feature was launched by the DHA at the opening of Arab Health on Monday.

At present, the service is available only across seven specialities, including gynaecology, cardiology, orthopaedics, IVF and fertility treatments, neurology, oncology, and urology.

Linda Abdullah, consultant for the Health Tourism Department, Health Regulation Sector at the DHA, said: “Patients will be able to get a second opinion from a team of multidisciplinary specialists and consultants from selected healthcare providers within two working days, once the complete reports and existing medical reports and diagnosis are provided.”

Medical records will be shared only with the specialist concerned, making patient details completely confidential, Abdullah added.

The facility can be used by a patient, a healthcare provider, as well as an insurance provider.

Dr Marwan Al Mulla, CEO of DHA’s Health Regulation Sector, said: “In addition to ensuring a fast turnaround time, the process also standardises the services and experience offered by the selected hospitals.”
