Three tonnes of drugs destroyed by Dubai authorities

About three tonnes of drugs have been destroyed by the Dubai Public Prosecution in collaboration with the Dubai Police anti-narcotics department.

The disposal of the 2,929kg of drugs took place at the Dubai Municipality Hazardous Waste Treatment Facility located in Jebel Ali.

Present on the scene was Dubai Attorney-General Issam Issa Al Humaidan, who said that disposing of the harmful substances comes within the strategy of the public prosecution to implement the law terms and the judicial rulings and to help protect the community as well.

The drugs had been confiscated in about 215 cases from 2017 to 2019. They included liquids, tablets and other forms. “The disposal of the drugs aims at implementing the law and keeping the society safe against the harm of the toxic substances.”

He pointed out that the drugs is a vice that require all the capabilities and resources of the authorities to root out, track down the dealers and peddlers and bring them to justice. Awareness should also be raised among the youths about the danger of the narcotics.

The attorney-general praised the efforts of the anti-narcotics department in cracking down on the banned substances.

Hassan Al Muttawah, assistant attorney-general; Khalifa Bin Demas, first advocate-general and head of the technical office; Hamad Al Khallafi, first advocate-general and head of the plenary prosecution; and Colonel Khalid Bou Mouwayza, deputy director of the General Directorate of Anti -Narcotic section of the Dubai Police; were also present at the site.
