UAE has launched tourist visas for Israeli visitors as visa waiver deal still in the works
After Monday’s incident involving Israel tourists who were stuck at Dubai airport for a few hours, the UAE has launched tourist visas for Israeli’s who wish to visit the UAE. It is believed that the UAE has suspended visa on arrival facility for Israeli travelers late on Sunday. This led to several hundred Israeli passengers who landed in Dubai on Monday morning being denied entry into the United Arab Emirates.
Under a visa exemption agreement reached earlier and already ratified by both states, Israelis and Emiratis will be able travel between the two countries as tourists without having to apply for a visa. This visa exemption deal is still in the works and discussions are ongoing between the Jewish State and the UAE government.
In the meantime, the UAE introduced tourist visas for Israelis that are available through airlines and travel offices. All Israeli visitors will now be required to apply for a UAE e-visa in advance.
According to the established procedure, tourists who travel using an Israeli passport will be able to enter the Emirates using a tourist visa that will be requested for them in advance by the airlines or travel agencies. The visas cost 250 dirhams (about $90) which will be charged by the airlines.
The procedure went into effect on November 30, and will continue until the visa waiver agreement, which was signed between the countries on October 20, is approved to begin.
