Guests should have negative Covid-19 result to attend Wedding event.

The small, private wedding was held recently in Ras Al Khaimah’s Maamura area.

An Emirati family did not take any chances when they celebrated their daughter’s wedding in an intimate affair. Besides inviting only a few of their closest relatives – they made it mandatory for each of them to present a valid negative Covid-19 test result.

The small, private wedding was held recently in Ras Al Khaimah’s Maamura area. “Guests were asked to do a Covid-19 test and present a negative certificate – instead of the regular invitation card – to be allowed in the wedding,” said Dr Juma Hassan Al Mullah Al Mansuri, the father of the bride.

The number of guests was limited to 25, in line with the rules set by the authorities, and all other safety measures were followed to the letter.

Physical distancing was observed throughout the function, which meant there were no hugs or handshakes. Masks must be worn at all times and sanitisers were readily available, Al Mansuri said.

“We did not want the couple or the family to start a new life with unfortunate Covid-19 infections,” he added.

The family’s house were also festooned with hundreds of fairy lights. “This way, we managed to share our happiness with our friends and neighbours who were not able to attend the wedding,” said Mahla Hassan Al Mulla, the aunt of the bride.

Since the pandemic struck, some cases of Covid-19 transmission in the country were blamed on irresponsible family gatherings. Last month, 47 members of five families contracted the virus as they hosted a get-together. In May, 30 cases from two families were reported because of the same reason.

Other families, however, had been strictly following safety protocols, with some even coming up with brilliant ideas to keep their homes virus-free.

“Some households here have placed notices on their main doors, saying that they were sorry for not being able to receive any guest considering the global pandemic,” said Mohamed Ibrahim, an Emirati who lives in Ras Al Khaimah.
