COVID-19: UAE sends aid plane containing 14 metric tons of medical and food supplies to Pakistan.

Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates sent an planeload of aid containing 14 metric tons of medical and food supplies to Pakistan to bolster the country’s efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The aid will assist approximately 7,000 medical professionals as they work to contain the virus.

Commenting on the aid delivery, said Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi, UAE Ambassador to Pakistan.

“As part of the bilateral cooperation that has underpinned the brotherly relations between our two countries for decades, the UAE is proud to extend assistance to Pakistan in furtherance of global solidarity in the fight against COVID-19,” added Al A Zaabi.

“Through this aid, we honour the frontline healthcare workers in Pakistan and around the world who are working tirelessly to put an end to this crisis,” he remarked.

The UAE delivered the first batch of critical medical supplies to Pakistan on April 2, reported Wam. On April 5, the second batch of 11 metric tons of medical supplies provided by the UAE arrived in Islamabad.

To date, the UAE has provided more than 320 metric tons of aid to over 30 countries, supporting nearly 320,000 medical professionals in the process.

“Special thanks to the international development sector team in Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for tremendous efforts in delivering medical and humanitarian aid from #UAE to the world .. Proud of Emirati youth the precious wealth and resource of homeland,” Al Zaabi tweeted after the aid plane landed at Islamabad International Airport.

The medical supplies sent from the UAE are part of the continuing humanitarian aid for Pakistani brothers and sisters under the guidance of the UAE leadership, said Al Zaabi. “Our commitment for humanitarian approaches and principles to help people in delicate situation has no limits,” he added.

The generous support from the UAE comes under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

UAE has time and time again rushed assistance to Pakistan at a time when people urgently needed support to overcome serious challenges such as earthquakes, floods and war against terrorism. The UAE’s humanitarian efforts in Pakistan cover wide sectors such as education, infrastructure, water, healthcare and polio eradication.
