Coronavirus in UAE: New case in Dubai? Ministry responds

The four people in UAE who were confirmed to have been infected yesterday are in quarantine.

A senior official with the UAE Ministry of Health and Protection (MOHAP) has confirmed that a viral video stating another case of the Novel Coronavirus has been detected in a Dubai locality is untrue.

reportedly taken from a market in one of Dubai’s major residential community, has been making the rounds on social media with captions titled ‘another coronavirus case in Dubai’ and ‘Please don’t go towards this locality’. The video shows health professionals wearing yellow hazmat suits, protective masks and other gear.

However, Dr Hussein Abdel-Rahman Al-Rand, the Assistant Undersecretary of Health Centers and Clinics Sector at the Ministry of Health and Prevention confirmed. “I presume it was some kind of training exercise, nothing to worry about. Other than the family of four who are under the MOH supervision, there are no other confirmed cases of Novel Coronavirus in the UAE. People should not worry.”

Chinese family to stay in quarantine for 14 days

Commenting on the health status of the Chinese family who are in quarantine at an undisclosed hospital in the UAE, Dr Al-Rand said, “The family will be under quarantine for a total of 14 days, as per international quarantine standards set by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Following which, we will follow procedures that are in the best interests of the patients and the UAE. Presently, they are stable and OK. They are not showing any major symptoms.”

He also advised residents to continue going about their day-to-day lives and take necessary health precautions.
