All-new 2020 Toyota Supra is here!

Date:

Debuting in the Seventies, the model went on to establish itself as a firm fixture within Toyota’s lineup until that solid run ended in 2002. But now, the legend has returned!

Much to the delight of motoring enthusiasts all over the UAE, Al-Futtaim Toyota launched the highly anticipated all-new 2020 GR Supra at a special event held at Yas Marina circuit, which we have already driven (we also drove a prototype too).

It’s been 17 years since the iconic model was last in production (check out all the generations here!), but Toyota has brought the nameplate back with a bang. Inspired by the classic 2000GT and boasting a long front and short deck, the fifth generation sportscar has been through thousands of kilometres of performance testing ensuring it lives up to expectations. It won’t be long before the front-engined, rear-wheel drive two-seater is seen on every street corner. Toyota’s flagship sportscar benefits from the experience of the Japanese manufacturer’s in-house racing department, Gazoo Racing (GR). Developed with BMW and heavily based on the Z4, it is powered by a longitudinally-mounted in-line turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder making 335 horsepower and 50.99kg-m of torque. Mated to an eight-speed automatic (with the steering-mounted paddle shifts) it can hit 0-100kph in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 250kph.

Inside, it gets body-hugging leather seats, an 8.8in full-colour display, multifunctional three-spoke sports steering wheel, dual-zone air-conditioning, a 12-speaker JBL sound system, push start button, Normal and Sport driving modes, sports pedals and a head-up display. It also comes equipped with front, side, curtain and driver’s knee airbags, plus assistance technologies such as adaptive cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, blind-spot warning, lane change assist, traffic sign recognition, a rear-view camera and more.

The 2020 GR Supra, which will be available in some fancy colours, includes a dual sports exhaust, adaptive LED lights, smart keyless entry and body-coloured details. It rides on a set lightweight, forged aluminium 19in wheels, and prices for the new car start at around the Dh230,000 mark which is considerably less than this one…

“With the 2020 Supra, a real automotive icon has finally returned and we know enthusiasts around the nation will be blown away by its performance which simply feeds your desire to just get in and drive,” said Saud Abbasi, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim Toyota.

Our favourite is still the second generation model but this new A90 looks like it will be the best one yet.
